Celebrate the History and Heritage of Lake Superior

The Exhibit Hall

Step back in time! Listen to spirited songs of voyageurs singing as they paddle their fur laden, 35-foot birch bark canoe across Lake Superior. Peek inside an 18th century fur trade post. Feel the pulsating rumble of an explosion in a deep-shaft iron mine. Our unique displays stage an overview of human cultures interacting with the land and natural resources of the Northern Great Lakes region, from the Ice Age to the present.

Retrace routes of the voyageurs!

Objects Theater Presentation

Watch the engaging Northern Voices show, illustrating how native peoples and regional immigrants have viewed the Northern Great Lakes Region through time and the seasons of the year. Special lighting, music, sound effects, images, and unique objects weave an entertaining story about the women and men who wandered, trapped, fished, logged, mined and farmed this rugged country.

Hear how native peoples viewed the Northern Great Lakes Region!

Around the Base of the Tower

Catch a silhouetted outline of shrubs, animals, and an area resembling the great north woods. As you approach, listen for familiar sounds of the forest. Ambient sounds of birds and frogs calling out, compelling you to take a closer look! Come closer! You'll find a life-like replica of Whittlesey Creek Wildlife Refuge!

See live baby sturgeon swimming in our fresh water aquarium. Interact with our coastal wetlands exhibits and discover important messages about our Chequamegon Bay Region of Lake Superior.

The art gallery showcases paintings, photographs and graphic works relating to the Lake Superior Region. The popular Annual Junior Duck Stamp Exhibit is here every spring. Stop in and see our newest art gallery display! See the 2007 schedule.
