New at the Center! Celebrate our Special PlacesOn July 4, Earth, Sky, Water: Wisconsin’s Special Places returns to the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center following its debut here in 2006. This delightful photo exhibit, sponsored by The Nature Conservancy and Wisconsin Trails magazine, is an intimate look at the lands, waters, and wildlife that are special to the people of Wisconsin. The Conservancy and Wisconsin Trails Magazine's 2005 photo contest invited photographers to share photos of their special places in nature, places protected as parks or natural areas, close-ups of plants and animals, and people in nature. The only requirement being the photos were taken in Wisconsin. The Earth, Sky, Water exhibit showcases the 45 winning images from this photo contest. The subjects range from spectacularly beautiful lakeshores, forests, waterfalls and farmlands throughout Wisconsin to humorous wildlife and majestic lighthouses. “Wisconsin is a remarkable state,” said Mary Jean Huston, state director of The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin, “and the photographers featured in this exhibit did an amazing job of capturing its natural beauty, diversity, and even humor.” We hope viewers will be inspired by these images to join the effort to conserve the best of outdoor Wisconsin for current and future generations to cherish and enjoy.” The photo exhibit is on display on the 2nd floor through the end of November. The public may view this exhibit for free at the Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Sunday. For more information please call 715-685-9983. |
